Why Green?

A Step Above

The presentation of this home is unique for the public and the community.  It has combined architectural design and building science to create a home which is durable, healthy, energy efficient and friendly to the environment. The reduction in the use of natural resources and building materials is better known in the building industry as Green Building.

The planning of the home has been designed to make the home feel larger than it really is.  The reduction of hallways allows more square footage to be placed in areas needed for living. The kitchen, dining, and living are combined together and create the nucleus of the home while providing volume for ergonomic effects.  Special considerations have been taken such as no steps, wider doors, and safety bar blocking to make this home handicap friendly for the future.

Natural Lighting

Strategically located windows introduce natural day lighting into the home while eliminating some use of artificial lighting.  The windows are placed in areas to encourage natural ventilation while making the home feel more open and featuring the outdoor landscaping.  The windows used are maintenance free and energy efficient.

Comprehensive lighting adds character to the design while providing ample task lighting to areas needed for work or food preparation.  The use of compact fluorescent lamps requires 75% less electrical usage than of typical homes of this nature.

Advanced Insulation Techniques

Advanced insulation techniques provide less air infiltration with a higher R-value. The HVAC ducting is enclosed within furr downs and special return air and filtration systems completes the total of the conditioned space, making an energy efficient environment within the enclosure.
